Korean baseball may seem a bit ‘out there’ for U.S. sports bettors. But one thing that will popularize Korean baseball is television. ESPN and the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization) are reportedly close to an agreement, meaning that you can catch Korea’s baseball league on national television.

Can I Even Bet On Korean Baseball?

The answer is yes. While South Korea is relatively restrictive in terms of allowing sports betting, nothing is stopping offshore websites from offering action. As with any other sport, you’ll want to own multiple betting accounts in order to shop around for the best number.

The KBO was slated to begin on March 26. But due to Covid-19, the season was postponed until May 5. You will not notice any fans in the stands. At least at first. The plan is to invite more spectators into the stadiums as the season progresses. At all events, South Korea plans to offer a full season, which consists in 144 games.

KBO Basics: The Teams

South Korean top-flight baseball consists in 10 teams. Three teams form a same-city rivalry akin to the Mets and Yankees and the Cubs and White Sox. In Korea, the three same-city rivals are the Twins, the Bears, and the Heroes. All three teams play in Seoul. Each team plays every other team a total of 16 times.

Historically, the most successful team in Korea is the Kia Tigers. Based in Gwangju, Kia became in 1982 the third KBO team to come into existence. Since that year, the Tigers have won 11 of 38 possible championships with the most recent one coming in 2017.

The Doosan Bears, however, are the most successful team in recent history and you can expect them to be chalked. Doosan is the defending champion. The Bears were also champs in 2016 while they were runner-ups in both 2017 and 2018.

Last season, they finished with the strongest regular season record — 88-55-1. They thus became one of five teams to qualify for postseason play. Eventually, the Bears swept the Heroes in four games to win the Korean Series. For comparison’s sake, the worst regular season record was held by Lotte Giants. They were 48-93-1.

Rule Differences

Notice that there are draws in the KBO. If both teams remain even in score after 12 innings, the game will be counted as a tie. In the playoffs, a tie will be declared after 15 innings. In such a scenario, however, the higher-seeded team gets credited with the victory.

The fact that the higher-seeded team wins should a tie occur in the playoffs is just one reason why seeding is really important to Korean baseball teams. Also, the highest-seeded team earns an automatic bid to the Korean Series. So last year, for example, the Bears only had to win one series to become champs. Furthermore, there is always going to be a designated hitter.

KBO Numbers

In terms of numbers, MLB bettors should already feel comfortable. On average, run totals may be slightly higher than in the MLB. You can expect run totals to be between 8 and 12.5. One minor factor that might drive run totals up is defense. There is a bit more chaos in Korea as the KBO witnesses a slightly higher rate of unearned runs than in the MLB. Still, don’t just bet the “over.”

Last year, if you parlayed every ‚over‘ on a given day, you would have hit three parlays. In contrast, a parlay with all ‘unders’ would have cashed 10 times. Hence, if anything, look to bet the ‘under’ with your baseball picks.

Home teams won 54.6 percent of the time, which is 1.6 percent higher than in the MLB. They swept eight different days. Away teams swept zero days. However, the run-line often proved profitable for the road team.

As for venue, Daegu Samsung Lions Park — home of the Lions — saw the most home runs per game. The Bears’ Jamsil Baseball Stadium witnessed the fewest home runs.

Overall, though, the KBO last year had the same home run rate as the MLB, although the KBO saw more hits and higher OPS.

In 1994, a new law on Cycle Racing & Boat Racing was established. This was modeled after legal betting in Japan. It was instituted for the purpose of raising funds for national sports promotion, supporting youth fostering projects for wholesome future for youths, expanding national & regional finances, and providing healthy relaxation and leisure for people.

The major difference between Korea and Japan is you can only bet the tote at the tracks in Korea. South Korean Baseball Betting Line

Volleyball Toto – In volleyball we have only a single game that is popular. This pairs two matches together and you make 4 wagers between the two. This is 1) correct set score, and 2) margin of victory in the first set (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7+) for both games.
